ISLAMABAD: The federal government increased the cost of petroleum products on Thursday for the next two weeks, burdening the general public with an extra cost of around Rs. 15–18 per litre.
According to the Finance Division’s notification, the government has decided to partially apply a petroleum levy and revise the current prices of petroleum products “as agreed with the development partners” due to fluctuations in the price of oil on the international market and changes in exchange rates.
Beginning on July 1, 2022, the new pricing will be in effect.
With the most recent increase, the price of petrol would go to Rs248.74/litre, diesel to Rs276.54/litre, kerosene to Rs230.26/litre, and light diesel to Rs226.15/litre.
Since taking office in April, the coalition government has increased the price of gasoline by Rs84. On May 26, it initially increased the price of gasoline by Rs 30, then on June 2, it hiked the price once again by Rs 30. And today, June 15, it increased the price by additional Rs. 24.
