Sardar Mohammad Said-ud-Din Khosa of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the Dera Ghazi (DG) Khan, Punjab, PP-288 seat in the by-elections, according to unconfirmed results cited by ARY News.

Sardar Mohammad Said-ud-Din Khosa of the PTI won with 58,015 votes, according to unofficial results from all 145 voting places.

According to unofficial data, Abdul Qadir Khosa, a candidate for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), finished in a close second place with 32,487 votes.

Despite rumours of fights and arrests, the voting process went on unbroken from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm before it was over.

Punjab by-elections for the 20 Punjab Assembly seats that had become vacant as a result of the PTI MPAs’ support for Hamza Shehbaz in the Chief Minister (CM) elections (today).

The outcomes of the by-elections are crucial for the CM vote count in the Punjab Assembly in July 2022, which was mandated by the Supreme Court (SC).

In today’s by-elections, the governing Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) must win a total of 11 seats to secure a majority and pick their chief minister in the nation’s largest province.

Prior to their resignations, Mian Jameel Ahmed Sharaqpuri and Faisal Niazi, two of PML-Members N’s of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), needed nine seats to gain a majority in the Punjab Assembly.
