According to a short statement provided by the PMD, the partial solar eclipse will be visible from southern South America, sections of Antarctica, and across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

The various stages of the solar eclipse will occur at:

  • At 23:45 p.m. PST, a partial eclipse will begin (30th April)
  • Maximum eclipse occurs at 01:42 a.m. PST (01st May)
  • The partial eclipse will conclude at 3:38 a.m. PST (01st May)

What exactly is a solar eclipse?

When the Moon and Sun align in the sky, the Moon fully obscures the Sun’s face. This happens once every 18 months somewhere in the world.

However, since the Moon’s shadow travels a restricted path over the Earth’s surface, not everyone will be able to observe totality every time. This is projected to happen just once every 375 years in any particular area on the globe.

The ability to observe a complete solar eclipse is mainly reliant on your location and the availability of clear sky (or at least patchy clouds). Even though totality is rare, you’ll very certainly see several partial solar eclipses from your position throughout the years.
