Officials from the PTI government’s negotiation team held a news conference on Sunday to inform the public on their discussions with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, which is banned in Pakistan (TLP).
The government’s representatives during the news conference were Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, while the outlawed TLP was represented by Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman.
Rehman began the news conference in Islamabad by declaring that discussions with the proscribed TLP were “successful” and that an “agreement” had been reached.
However, he stated that the terms of the deal will be released in due time.
He said that the deal achieved with the government was a triumph for Islam and Pakistan, rather than a victory or loss for any person.
According to Rehman, the agreement established a steering group, which would be led by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan and include Mufti Ghulam Ghous Baghdadi of the TLP. He stated that the committee will start working today.
