Vivo has recently launched the Y78+ smartphone which has a large display, powerful battery and is priced affordably. The phone will be available for purchase in China starting from April 26th at a starting price of CNY 1,600 for the 8/128GB version (which roughly translates to $230/€210/₹19,000). Additionally, there are other variants with storage capacities of 8/256GB and 12/256GB priced at CNY 1,800 and CNY 2,000 respectively.

The main highlight of the vivo Y78 Plus smartphone is its display, which is a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display offers a high refresh rate of 120Hz and excellent color accuracy with full coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut (105% NTSC). The display is also very bright, reaching a maximum of 1,300 nits.

And it’s a curved display, similar to more premium offerings, plus there is a fingerprint reader under the display.

One of the main features we talked about is the 5,000mAh battery, which can be charged quickly at 44W. The USB-C port doubles as a headphone jack, and if you prefer wireless audio, the Bluetooth 5.1 can support aptX HD/Adaptive and LDAC.

The price of the device is quite high, which indicates that compromises must have been made somewhere. The chipset, Snapdragon 695, is likely to be the main cause of dissatisfaction among users as it is outdated in terms of performance. However, the device does come with generous memory options – 8 or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage (without a microSD slot). To compensate for the chipset’s limitations, the device runs on Android 13 with OriginOS 3, which can add up to 8GB of virtual memory.

The camera setup of this device is quite basic and consists of a 50MP primary sensor on the back with optical image stabilization and a 2MP depth sensor, but its video recording capability is only up to 1080p due to the chipset limitations. On the front, there is an 8MP selfie camera located in a notch with an f/2.0 lens.
