A recent Forbes article revealed some troubling information concerning TikTok’s moderating policies. For training reasons, the social media behemoth allegedly showed its moderators footage of child sexual assault and other upsetting information.
Teleperformance is a third-party moderation firm that collaborates with TikTok and other organizations to analyze and control video content on the app. Its workers allege that TikTok requested that they check a spreadsheet labeled DRR, or Daily Required Reading on TikTok, which included information that violates TikTok’s principles. This includes hundreds of photographs of minors with sexual material.
According to these workers, hundreds of individuals at TikTok had access to this content, and Teleperformance could access it both inside and outside the workplace, posing a significant danger of a widespread leak. However, Teleperformance denied showing its staff any underage sexual video, and TikTok claims that its training processes include “tight access limitations,” but does not specify if this applies to all third-party moderators.
Employees, on the other hand, report a different scenario, which might lead to litigation since child pornography is banned in the United States. Companies are supposed to notify authorities, and one employee claimed to have done so with the FBI, however, it is unclear if a case was filed.
According to the charges against TikTok, Teleperformance even provided its staff graphic material as samples of what to tag on TikTok, with lax restrictions over access to such information.
