Experts have expressed fears that Russia may allow wildfires to spread, which are a significant source of carbon emissions, while it prioritizes the invasion above firefighting.
“There will either be more fires… or these planes and troops will be moved away from the western front and sent to Siberia,” Jessica McCarty, a climate researcher at Miami University in Ohio, told Axios.
